The Battle of Baidoa: is battle between Good and Evil

As the casualty of war rising in Baidoa area between Ethiopian troops and Islamic Courts Union (ICU), the world has turned on blind eye on the blight of Somali people who for 16 years terrorized by warlords founded and supported by Ethiopian regime and the US.

The regimes in Addis Ababa in the last 60 years has had one unique goal for Somalia and this passed to one generation to another and one administration to another, similar to US policy on Israel-Palestinian conflict. And that is Somalia is an Ethiopian land!

Ethiopia which could be described as Black-Zionist in Africa and its close relationship with Israel and US as well its support of Israel oppression against Palestinians made the Horn Africa the most unstable region on earth and it presented itself as pariah nation in Africa.

The country is unable to feed its own people, let alone to raise money to buy weapons, but can get fast loan approval from IMF and World Bank to buy Russian fighter jets worth tens of million dollars each, and to invade its neighboring countries, while the international community still provides them with loan and food aid.

In the last four days over 30,000 Ethiopian troops with their military hardware crossed the border into Somalia and joined the frontline in Battle of Baidoa protecting the Somalia government from ICU.

The Somali government, who are the agents of Ethiopia, was established in Kenya over two years ago and is made of dozens of warlords and drug dealers who committed war crimes against Somali people.

In the first eighteen months for the government’s efforts was stalled by hardcore warlords financed by the CIA and refused the government to settle in Mogadishu. After popular up rise from the people of Mogadishu and neighboring regions, including Lower Jubba, Bay and Middle Shabelle, they rooted out the warlords from the country, some of them escaped to Ethiopia, Baidoa and Uganda, while they are still MP’s and are paid fortnightly salary of $900 US dollar from UNDP.

The US never admitted publicly its supports the warlords, but Western diplomats have not doubt the CIA covert operation financing the warlords, even some of the warlords admitted that they received both financial and material from the CIA and US State Department refused for an investigation; however the cover-up did not heal the wound it caused to thousand ordinary Somali, who are killed, abducted and mutilated bodies by these warlords.

Now the situation has reached where negotiation have little or no hope at all, as the US previously said that it will protect the Somali transitional federal government from the ICU, but no one had questioned its legitimacy of the protection while it never publicly recognized Abdullahi Yusuf’s government. It has neither envoy nor ambassador in Somalia, it relies on its lap-dog in Addis Ababa. Only UN can legally enforce such legitimacy. Otherwise, any US move could simply mean pre-emptive solution.

This pre-emptive solution has now been outsourced to Males Zinawe and he immediately executed his plan with the approval of UN two weeks ago when it approved the controversial draft lifting the Somali arms embargo prepared by the outgoing the US neo-con ambassador to UN, John Bolton. The resolution has immediately backfired from majority of Somalia and Islamic world describing as crazy and irresponsible.

The US biased and hatred policy toward Islamic world is not immune Somalia itself, which Bush administration accused of harboring three so-called Al- Qaeda operatives suspected behind the US embassy bombing in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. But the number of Somali civilian killed by Ethiopian shells in Edale and Doynunay near Baidoa in the war US outsourced to them has more meaning to us as Somalis, than the unknown of US truth about the Al-Qaeda fugitives.

If the US has moral and legitimate authority to do whatever it desires in this world then the Iraq war, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay and Abu Gureib proves that is not so.

The Battle of Baidoa proved that the Somalis are united not only against Ethiopians, but the US and the warlords still it backs. The Ethiopians wants to bring back the warlords to Mogadishu streets, something the Somali people will never accept.

The embattled 80 year old of Somali cannot settle in Mogadishu even with the help of Ethiopian troops, because simply no body likes him and his murderous MP’s and ministers, including the people of Baidoa, so is this a good investment of the US foreign policy?. His militia recently killed dozen of people in Baidoa, and many more were evicted their homes which were near to his presidential compound without any compensation and now sheltering a make up shift in Baidoa.

Therefore, no regime that already started behaving like this is able to rule Somalia and will ever get support from the ordinary people who want to live in peace and stability.

Today Somalis are united to root out the warlords and their backers including the US, regardless whether the UN or African Union, or Arab League or Organization of Islamic Conference turn on blind eye on the Ethiopian invasion and its US support, as they were in the last 16 years. Somalis choose the Good over the Evil, because the ordinary people fed up civil wars and warlords and want peace, but the peace is attached with huge price, morally, intellectually, money and life. And this is what they doing.

I know that majority of Ethiopians do not support the Males Zinawi’s war and they fed up with his corrupted style and furthermore, the Ethiopians like peace as any ordinary human being. But the war initiated by the rag tag in Addis Ababa in support of US neo-cons administration which already the casualty it suffered from this war felt in Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian people need to know that the regimes do come and go from time to time but the good and bad tastes are left for its citizens. Zenawi proved that he is no better than Mingistu Haile Merriam even worse in some aspects, including giving his own people the top jobs and illegally gave the business seized by the Derg regime from ordinary Ethiopians to his people. So his legacy matches with Slobodan Milosevic, August Pinochet and so on.

In conclusion, the current uprising of Somalia has nothing to do with Ethiopian people or Christianity rather gaining their lost dignity and nationhood.
